GENERAL 5TH GRADE INFORMATION

Take a Break: Take a Break is a responsive classroom strategy that we use in 5th grade.  If students are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or unfocused they may take a short break in the take a break area.  Sometimes students who are not focused or who are making poor choices may be asked to take a break by the teacher.  This is not a punishment, but a way for students to refocus in a positive manner.  If a student has made a choice that requires a consequence, the student will have the opportunity to discuss his or her actions and reflect on a consequence that both the student and teacher feel is appropriate.  This may include a think sheet that the student will bring home to have signed by a parent.

Reading Homework: Students are expected to read at home every night for a minimum of 20 minutes. It is very important to continually be practicing their reading skills in order to constantly improve upon those skills. If for some reason your child cannot read for 20 minutes on a particular night they need to make sure that they read for at least 20 minutes, 5 different times throughout the week.

Please remember that students are to return their Pink Folders and Reading Logs every Monday signed.  LOST YOUR READING LOG CLICK HERE!
